Copeland Canoe Club is a Clubmark club (June 2009), an affiliated member of the British Canoe Union (No. 954) and a Community Amateur Sports Club (no. CASC 00884) . Its aim is to promote the sport of canoeing. Our constitution was last amended at the Annual General Meeting in November 2008, to bring us into line with BCU regulations regarding equality.

Membership Fees:

Our membership subscription fees for 2010 are:

Membership fees are annual, per calendar year. If you join during the year fees are pro-rata.

The membership fees cover affiliation to the British Canoe Union and contribute to the running of the club and the purchase and maintenance of club equipment. Club members have a measure of Public Liability Insurance because of the Club's BCU affiliation.

Session Charges

Pool Sessions (includes hire of boat/paddle):

Per session: £3.00 members / £3.50 non members.

Families pay a maximum of £6.00 or £7.00.

We have agreed the following guidelines for trips:

Trips: boat / equipment hire: £2.50 per trip.

Fuel etc: Individuals travelling together are expected to share the costs, a minimum contibution of £2.00 seems reasonable.

Trailers: If someone is towing a trailer carrying a boat for you (including club boats) you should contribute at least £1.00 to the driver.

Please ensure you pay your share of the costs on the day of the trip. We rely on the goodwill of drivers to enable us to continue to run trips.

We ask for details of someone to contact at home in the unlikely event of needing to get in touch.

We also ask (in confidence) for details of any medical condition you may have that would affect your ability to paddle.

Protection Policy:

As a club we are committed to the British Canoe Union's Equity Policy and to their Protection Policy for Children and Vulnerable Adults.

Joe Stalker is our Protection Officer and can should be contacted personally at a pool session if you want any further information. Alison Bird is also a Protection Officer, who can also be approached.

Committee Meetings

Club meetings are informal events, open to all members, and are usually held about 5 times a year. The AGM is held each year in November.

Training

We encourage members to acquire BCU qualifications in order to improve their skills and improve their ability to paddle safely.

BCU Paddlepower and Star awards:

We encourage members to train for these personal skill awards and arrange testing to suit individuals.

We will support members who wish to train further for other awards such as Foundation Safety and Rescue Training, First Aid and Coaching Awards.

 Pool Qualifications:

We use the "paddlepower" scheme to train in the pool - some sections can be counted towards this. However Star Awards must be taken outside.
