Copeland Canoe Club is an affiliated member of the British Canoe Union (No. 954). Its aim is to promote the sport of canoeing. Our constitution was last amended at an Extraordinary General Meeting in April 2003, to allow us to become a Community Amateur Sports Club.
At our last AGM in November 2007 we made the decision to register for "Clubmark" and BCU "Top Club" status . This will take 9-15 months and give members the reassurance that we follow safe procedures.
You can download pdf or "acrobat" files of various club documents including the latest minutes of committee meetings from this page : club documents
Current fees (2008) are: Junior (Under 18) £15.00; Student: £15.00; Non-resident student: £10.00; Senior £20.00; Family £30.00
Membership fees are annual, per calendar year. If you join during the year fees are pro-rata.
The membership fees cover affiliation to the British Canoe Union and contribute to the running of the club and the purchase and maintenance of club equipment. Club members have a measure of Public Liability Insurance because of the Club's BCU affiliation.
Pool Sessions (includes hire of boat/paddle):
Per session: £3.00 members / £3.50 non members.
Families pay a maximum of £6.00 or £7.00.
Trips: boat / equipment hire: £2.50 per trip.
Fuel etc: Individuals travelling together are expected to share the costs, a minimum contibution of £2.00 seems reasonable.
Trailers: If someone is towing a trailer carrying a boat for you (including club boats) you should contribute at least £1.00 to the driver.
Please ensure you pay your share of the costs on the day of the trip. We rely on the goodwill of drivers to enable us to continue to run trips.
As a club we are committed to the British Canoe Union's Protection Policy for Children and Vulnerable Adults.
Joe Stalker is our Protection Officer and can should be contacted personally at a pool session if you want any further information. Alison Bird is also a Protection Officer, who can also be approached.
Club meetings are informal events, open to all members, and are usually held about 5 times a year. The AGM is held each year in November.
We encourage members to acquire BCU qualifications in order to improve their skills and improve their ability to paddle safely.
We encourage members to train for these personal skill awards and arrange testing to suit individuals.
We will support members who wish to train further for other awards such as Canoe Safety, First Aid and Coaching Awards.
We use the "paddlepower" scheme to train in the pool - some sections can be counted towards this. However Star Awards must be taken outside.
If you have any questions or concerns please speak to us at one of the sessions, or contact us at info@copelandcanoe.org.uk
