Looking after our environment...

so that it is there for future generations

Leave no trace of your visit...take nothing but photos...
Leave the environment as you found it
Find out about the area you wish to visit. What wildlife is there? Are there any special plants / animals that you should be aware of?
Report any pollution or damaged wildlife to the relevant authority

Organize to take litter home - of course!
Consider others both on water and on land take responsibility for your own actions. Follow the Countryside code; drive carefully; shop locally! Use local produce as much as you can.

Waterborne and waterside problems

There are a number of infections, some bacterial, some fungal, that you should know about and some non-native species in our waters as well.

Rather than repeat what others have done better than we could, look at the Scottish Canoe Association site which has up to date information and good pictures about a number of problems including...

  • Blue-green Algae
  • Weill`s disease (Leptospirosis)
  • Himalayan Balsam
  • American Crayfish
  • Gyrodactilus Salaris
  • New Zealand Pygmy Weed

Look for their "access and environment" section.
